CCM-ACECoR Research and Grants Coordinator Elected Africa Representative on Coastal Engineering Research Council Early Career Subcommittee
Corps

The Research and Grants Coordinator of the Centre for Coastal Management-ACECoR at the University of Cape Coast, Dr. Donatus Angnuureng, has been elected and inaugurated as the Africa Representative of the Coastal Engineering Research Council (CERC) Early Career Subcommittee member. The appointment was made during the 39th International Conference on Coastal Engineering (ICCE 2026), held in Galveston, Texas, USA, from May 17–22, 2026.
Dr. Angnuureng's election is a testament to his growing influence in the field of coastal engineering and resilience research in addressing coastal challenges. It also emphasizes the Centre’s impact on regional and global coastal issues.
During the conference, Dr. Angnuureng delivered an insightful presentation on "the Modelling of Coastal Risks Along the Volta Delta in Ghana." The presentation highlighted how shoreline changes along the Volta Delta are driven by a complex interplay of natural coastal processes and human activities.
He provided valuable insights into the factors shaping coastal vulnerability and their implications for communities that depend on the coastal environment for their livelihoods, and how Bayesian Network Modelling is a very effective tool in understanding coastal changes.
`The Coastal Engineering Research Council Early Career Subcommittee was established to strengthen the global network of early-career researchers and professionals in coastal engineering, foster international collaboration, and develop initiatives that support and inspire the next generation of coastal engineers and scientists worldwide.
Dr. Angnuureng's appointment is expected to make valuable contributions in advancing coastal engineering research and strengthening Africa's participation in global conversations on coastal resilience and sustainable coastal development among early-career coastal scientists across the African continent and beyond.
The Centre for Coastal Management congratulates Dr. Angnuureng on this remarkable achievement and wishes him the very best in this new role.
